National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) is the main cancer treatment centres in Singapore. Volunteers could engage in 3 types of volunteer work: patient guides, SNACKS program and admin duties.
Patient guides are responsible for guiding patients around the hospital, as well as guiding them with the use of automated registration machines to receive their queue numbers, appointment time and medical procedures to undergo. Patient guides are crucial in helping out especially the older generation who may have mobility limitations or might not be familiar with new technology.
SNACKS program is a program where volunteers aid nurses in giving out hot milo and snacks to cancer patients in patient wards undergoing hormone therapy, chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
Admin work includes various duties such as packing of gift bags for cancer-awareness campaigns or sorting out information pamphlets to be given to cancer patients. Unlike patient guides and SNACKS program, admin work is not done in NCCS but instead at the SGH office building.
Location: 11 Hospital Drive, Singapore 169610
Volunteer timings: Mon-Fri, 10.30am- 2.30pm (hospital work), 4pm (admin work)

Saint Andrews' Community Hospital (SACH)
St. Andrew’s Community Hospital (SACH) is a service of St. Andrew’s Mission Hospital.
Established in 1992, SACH was the first community hospital in Singapore set up to provide affordable intermediate medical care. We are focused on providing rehabilitation and sub-acute care to children, adults and the elderly; including those with dementia or needing palliative care. Our outpatient services include day rehabilitation, community therapy, primary care, home healthcare and other senior care services. We volunteer at the pediatric ward and look after the children in the wards. We play simple games with them, sing songs, read books and sometimes bring them out for walks around the area. Location: 8 Simei Street 3, Singapore 529895 Volunteer Timings: Mon to Fri: Between 3pm and 5pm Saturday/Sunday Mornings (9:30am to 11:30am) and Afternoons (2/3pm to 4:30pm) |
NG TENG FONG GENERAL HOSPITAL (NTFGH)
Ng Teng Fong General Hospital (NTFGH) is a member of the National University Hospitals System (NUHS). While volunteering at Tower B, members will get an opportunity to interact with adults or elderly patients. Whereas at Tower C, which is under Jurong Community Hospital, most patients are there for rehabilitation, and tend to stay in the hospital for a longer period of time.
|
As volunteers, members will take part in the Mobile Games. Essentially, it is our responsibility to interact with the patients, conduct some small games, or simple hold a conversation with them, to help brighten up their stay at the hospital. It is a good opportunity for members to learn how to strike a conversation with a stranger, and be able to build a genuine connection within a relatively short period of time.
Location: 1 Jurong East Street 21, Singapore 609606
Volunteer Timings: Saturday, 10.30a.m. - 12.30p.m.

INSTITUTE OF MENTAL HEALTH (IMH)
The Institute of Mental Health (IMH) offers a multidisciplinary and comprehensive range of psychiatric, rehabilitative and counselling services in both hospital and community-based settings to meet the needs of three groups of people – children and adolescents, adults, and the elderly.
Besides providing patient-centred clinical services, IMH trains the current and next generation of clinicians, nurses and allied health professionals in psychiatry and conducts research related to mental health. Over the years, IMH has become a recognised centre of excellence for clinical services, research and education in psychiatric care.
The Stepping Stones Programme housed in Ward 23B is but one of the many programmes run by IMH. Aimed at patients nearing the tail-end of their rehabilitation process, the programme seeks to equip patients with the knowledge, skills and support to help them assimilate back into society.
MedSoc members will have the opportunity to head down once a week on Saturdays for 2 hours to interact with the patients. Doing so increases the patient's social interaction with strangers help them pick up important social cues that they will require when they are integrated back into society. Volunteers will also have a first hand experience in organising special activities for the ward patients, as they are given free reign over any activity they wish to hold. This provides them with the opportunity to communicate with the nurses and social workers to understand the patient's needs and accommodate them accordingly. Additionally, simply holding a conversation with any of the patients gives a visceral perspective of what mental illnesses are and how it affects people.
Location: Buangkok Green Medical Park, 10 Buangkok View, 539747
